Mirna Cano, M. Ed., M.A., LPC-S

Owner

Whether you're navigating anxiety, healing from trauma, facing relationship challenges, or simply feeling overwhelmed, Mirna believes you shouldn't have to face life's struggles alone. As the owner of Wellness Counseling & Consulting, she is passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to move toward healing.

Mirna provides counseling in both English and Spanish and brings over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her background as a school counselor gives her unique insight into child and adolescent development, parenting, behavioral concerns, ADHD, self-esteem, and school-related challenges. She also has extensive experience supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and survivors of domestic violence.

Mirna believes that every person's story is unique, and therapy should be too. She tailors treatment to each client's individual needs using evidence-based approaches, including CBT, EMDR, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Family Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy. She is also trained in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and is a certified Love and Logic® facilitator.

Mirna earned her bachelor's degree in Bilingual Education from Texas Wesleyan University and dual Master's degrees in School Counseling and Professional Counseling from Amberton University. She considers it an honor to walk alongside clients as they discover their strengths, overcome life's challenges, and build a more hopeful and fulfilling future.

Counselor

Lael is a warm, creative, and compassionate counselor dedicated to helping clients reach their full potential. She enjoys working with individuals as young as age 3, adolescents, and adults and appreciates the opportunity to connect with clients across different ages and stages of life. Lael brings curiosity, empathy, creativity, and genuine connection into the counseling room. She works collaboratively with clients to better understand the experiences, patterns, and emotions influencing their lives while helping them discover new ways of coping, communicating, and moving forward in their healing journey.

When working with younger clients, Lael incorporates play and developmentally appropriate techniques that allow children to express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. With adolescents and adults, she provides a space to explore concerns such as anxiety, relationships, past experiences, self esteem and the every day challenges that can leave us feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Her counseling approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy techniques, and play therapy, with each session shaped around the individual client. Lael encourages clients to explore what matters to them, recognize the strengths and resources they already possess, and develop practical tools that support meaningful change beyond the counseling room.

Aldo is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) in Texas & is passionate about helping children, adolescents, adults, and families navigate life's challenges in a supportive and compassionate environment. With more than 19 years of experience working with youth and families in educational settings, Aldo is committed to empowering clients to discover their strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Aldo earned a Master of Arts in School Counseling and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As a school counselor, he has extensive experience providing individual counseling, crisis intervention, social-emotional support, and collaborating with families, educators, and community professionals to promote student well-being. These experiences provide him a deep understanding of the emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges individuals face throughout different stages of life.

Aldo's counseling approach is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, believing that every individual has the innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding. He strives to create a warm, accepting, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel genuinely heard, valued, and respected. Aldo believes that healing begins with a trusting therapeutic relationship. He is dedicated to walking alongside clients with compassion, respect, and genuine care as they work toward becoming the healthiest and most authentic versions of themselves.

Cortney is a graduate level counseling intern who brings over 10 years of experience in special education teaching roles, as well as experience working with survivors of crime, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Cortney works with children, adolescents, and adults. Cortney earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Rehabilitative Studies from The University of North Texas and is completing the final internship stage of her Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University to work toward LPC licensure. Cortney is supervised by Mirna Cano, M.A., LPC-S.

Cortney enjoys connecting with clients of all ages and takes an integrative approach to counseling, drawing from multiple evidence based therapeutic approaches and interventions, tailored to each individual client’s needs, goals, and strengths. Cortney strives to provide an empathetic, non judgmental environment where clients feel safe and supported as they process their experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and work toward healing. She believes that no one should have to walk through challenging moments alone.

Alicia Mendez, M.S.

Office Manager

Alicia is the office manager at Wellness Counseling & Consulting and enjoys creating a welcoming and supportive space for our clients and team members. Alicia has a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and is currently working toward becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist- Associate (LMFT-A).

Alicia believes that mental health is about healing from pain we may not always realize we carry, understanding how our culture, family, and upbringing have shaped us and learning to accept that life may not always look the way we imagined. Healing, to her, is about allowing ourselves to slow down, heal out inner child, embrace who we are, and continue growing through every season of life.
